Interactive Evolutionary Approach to Character Animation
نویسنده
چکیده
We describe in this paper an approach to the animation of articulated figure using a combination of forward kinematics, neural net and genetic algorithms. A set of kinematics motion data for an articulated model is evolved to generate a set of varied motion that performs according to an objective function set by the user. Neural net is used to constrain the search space of possible motions. User interaction with the process ensures a certain style evolves from the myriad of possibilities. We show how our technique makes it possible to create libraries of reusable motions from a small number of example motions.

Interactive Evolution for Designing Motion Variants
We present an intuitive method for novice users to interactively design custom populations of stylized, heterogeneous motion, from one input motion. The user sets up lattice deformers which are used by a genetic algorithm to manipulate the animation channels of the input motion and create new motion variants. Our interactive evolutionary design environment allows the user to traverse the availa...
متن کاملParameter Spaces, Spacetime Control and Motion Graphs for Automating the Animation of Videogame Characters
Character animations are a crucial part of many interactive applications, from training simulations to videogames. As these applications have become more sophisticated, the growing number of character animations required has made standard animation techniques like key-framing and motion-capture increasingly expensive and time-consuming. Procedurally generating animations appears to offer a solu...
متن کاملA Responsiveness Metric for Controllable Characters
Several research efforts in character animation have focused on generating interactive and directible humanlike characters. Datadriven, procedural and physical simulation approaches have all produced responsive characters. Unfortunately, there are no reliable metrics for comparing the responsiveness of characters among different approaches. Such a metric could help an animator or a content desi...
متن کاملLocal Physical Models for Interactive Character Animation
Our goal is to design and build a tool for the creation of expressive character animation. Virtual puppetry, also known as performance animation, is a technique in which the user interactively controls a character’s motion. In this paper we introduce local physical models for performance animation and describe how they can augment an existing kinematic method to achieve very effective animation...
متن کاملA Conversational Avatar Framework for Digital Interactive StoryTelling
Digital Interactive Storytelling (DIS) is a relatively novel area of computer entertainment which aims at investigating interactive applications capable of generating consistent, emergent and rich stories. To provide new solutions for DIS, we have proposed a novel multi-agent DIS framework, DIEGESIS, which includes agents' coordination and new planning and replanning solutions for DIS. A natura...
